Tacoma Freedom Fair events will cover two miles of the Ruston Way waterfront on the 4th of July. Starting at 10 AM, the schedule includes seven live entertainment performance areas featuring a wide variety of music. Those attending will find games, kids entertainment, and an open-air market with arts, crafts and 2 food courts. You'll see the world's longest-running pole vault competition, a log boom for boaters (limited to vessels 20' or under), Army landing craft rides, a classic car show, military exhibits in Camp Patriot. The Metro Parks Family Fun Zone will be filled with activities at Dickman Mill Park, and the Lost Boys Pirates Cove will feature all kinds of activities for children of all ages. Highlighting the day will be exciting performances by military and civilian aircraft during the Tacoma Air Show starting at 1:30 and the spectacular Grand Finale Fireworks Extravaganza starting at 10:10 PM. Freedom Fair 2008 Partners with Emergency Food Network Organizers of Freedom Fair 2008 are partnering with the Emergency Food Network to not only provide fun family-oriented memories for Freedom Fair attendess, but also much-needed food donations for the homeless in the South Sound. Anyone attending Freedom Fair can make a donation of non-perishable food items at entrances to Ruston Way or at Camp Patriot (Marine Park). Freedom Fair attendees who donate non-perishable food items at donation points during Freedom Fair will receive a ticket for a prize drawing (limit one ticket per family). The Emergency Food Network (EFN) has been working since 1982 to provide a reliable food supply so that no person in Pierce County goes hungry. Each month in Pierce County, more than 130,000 people seek emergency food assistance, which is provided at no cost to over 70 food banks, hot meal sites, and shelters for distribution to low-income families and individuals. Freedom Fair organizers hope that families and individuals who come to Freedom Fair to enjoy the entertainment, vendors, and other activities will remember that on the 4th of July, as on the other 364 days of the year, someone is hungry. It only takes a small effort to combat that by bringing those non-perishable food items to the Ruston Way venue. Freedom Fair has been recognized by several national media organizations as one of the best shows in the nation.
